Lucas and Friend

  • Mar. 19th, 2009 at 8:51 PM

I love birds. I think we've established that. :) Last night I made a couple of hanging cards. They are for no one special, yet. I just made them because I wanted to play.

The birds and the branches are chipboard by Maya Road. They look like this when I first get started with them.

I named the bird in this first card Lucas. My good friend Kelly has a crow that visits his window daily and causes all sorts of racket. I decided that the crow needed a name and it should be Lucas. And so it is.

So here is Lucas...resting on a branch and heckling Kelly while he tries to work. Oh...the clouds were drawn on an old spelling book (from 1920) and then cut out and outlined with a black marker.

I first misted the chipboard with an eggplant color (my favorite) and then I used Ranger Crackle Paint over him. The paint was kind of dried out. Any thoughts on how to make it liquidy again???

And of course Lucas needed a friend...so this is Lucy.

Lucy was intially a mahogony (sp) color but once I put her on the card I decided that she needed to be more of a cream color. And once I did that she was a little washed out so I THEN decided that she needed some real color...so I used Ranger Distress Ink...I just brushed it on with a foam brush. And she looks beautiful!

Hope you guys enjoyed my little creations. :) Have a great weekend!

OHHHH - ONE MORE THING...the branches were misted brown and then I versa marked them and used Ultra Thick Embossing Powder for the glossy look...looks like epoxy! Yanno you want to try it!

tee hee...thanks Kimmy!!

You can also achieve the same look on the glossy branches with "glossy accents" and "diamond glaze"...I'm just not that patient.

Someone told me you can use a mister and add a little water to the crackle paint if it's dry.
